Power steering
In the 1920's Francis W. Davis invented power steering. As the chief engineer at Pierce Arrow Motor Car Company truck division he was able to see firsthand how difficult it was to steer heavy vehicles. After quitting his job at Pierce Arrow and renting a small engineering shop in Waltham, MA Davis developed a hydraulic system that led to power steering. In 1951 power steering became available commercially.
